Omaha’s Kinetic + Creative Energy Hive: The Mastercraft Building

What once was a target for those trying to steal from and loot the area, this is now a beacon in the neighborhood for artists, photographers, companies that provide IT services, and a general budding development of creativity. Anchored by tenants The Slowdown, Hot Shops Art Center, and, this is the northernmost area of downtown Omaha that is absolutely gaining attention after post-renovation efforts. It takes quite a bit to envision a space where a hotbed of talent all cohabitates and chips in on each other’s projects, and once accomplished, this is a task that many wish they could take credit for. Bob Grinnell is the developer behind this dynamic Omaha spot, which has been talked and written about nationwide by many hip and artistic publications. There are several dynamic tenants in this space that are changing the face of Omaha, and giving back a healthy creative dose of mojo and entrepreneurship while they are at it.

Mindmixer, CSM Group, and Vireo are some of the dwellers on the first section, as well as Dundee Venture Capital and Hoover Studios. Dundee Capital’s focus on eCommerce and web services makes them stand out and be more relative than ever to the digital climate, and Vireo is a firm where certified planning and design takes center stage. Tat’s Nailz is an innovative tenant that offers services for digital nail imaging, and aspires to improve the quality of fashion around the globe. Edison Creative is a very hip Midwestern think tank that transforms stories through graphic motion and streaming video, and has worked with clients such as Mercedes Benz Memphis. Passionately ran by Luke Bolin, they tell stories through video that resonate well and morph with any project setting. Omaha Video Solutions and Scott Drickey Photography also reside here, more visual wizards with their eye on the pulse of Omaha’s growing digital medium/artistic talent.

With renovation in place and a great interest in the second section of the location, more tenants moved in and are helping keep the building diverse and collective. Big Ink Writing is a heavy hitter in the creation of marketing materials and copywriting, and Burns and McDonnell Engineering has an edge on Burgeoning build services in the Omaha metro and beyond. Interwine Interactive and Flywheel have a very real techie grasp on all things domain related, offering WordPress hosting and other tweaks to all things coded and unclear to the usual aptitude. Silicon Prairie News covers startups and entities much like the ones housed within its own domain. MTRL Design also resides here on the second section, an eco responsible company that provides laser cutting and other engraving services.

This is truly one building in Omaha that many are looking towards for an artisanal quality of craft and diversity, and a one stop station for everything dynamically robust in Omaha. The upper North area of downtown Omaha stands to grow even more in the near future; the Mastercraft Building will remain an anchor for the artistically inclined for years in the future. Don’t put away your Ipad and digital design dreams just yet, there may be a prospective spot waiting for you in the third section.
