Have Some Fun and Learn A New Skill at Hot Shops Art Center in Omaha

It has been in the Omaha area since 1999, but just recently the art center has been bursting with activity. It has become a popular spot for artists to rent/lease studio space and offer classes and workshops sharing their trades with the public.
Hot Shops art center gets its name from the four studios on the main level of the three-story art center building. These four studios feature art mediums that use high levels of heat. They include glass blowing, metal foundry, ceramics, and iron forge more commonly recognized to some as blacksmithing.
Recently the art center has been bustling with activity and every studio space in the three-story building is full of artists showcasing their work, creating new pieces, and sharing their knowledge with anyone interested in learning about creating their own art. The center offers several classes and events it is a fun place to discover more of what Omaha has to offer.
Events at the Hot Shops Art Center
In addition to the many different workshops and classes that switch up monthly and even weekly the art center will host occasional events. The next event to be held at the art center is the Mixin It Up Art Exhibition from August 5 through August 27 at the Nicholas Street Gallery. The opening reception for this exhibition is on the 5th from 5 to 9 pm. There will be live entertainment and special guests including Jack 2.0 Dj, Sophia Parker wearable artist/designer, Lita De La Guardia DeJuan Cribbs live painters, and the Dry Spokes Sober Bar.
It is an event to take in art, fashion, and music in one fun space. There will be live painting, fashion shows, and music from live DJs. It is a fun way to experience the art center and see what is going on in this lively space of artists coming together and may even inspire you to sign up for a class.

Classes
There is always a great collection of art classes and workshops going on at the center. It is a fun way to learn something new and fun, meet local artists, and meet other people in Omaha with the same interests. There are classes available for both children and adults. You can check out the art center classes page to get a full list of what is currently available or you can ask to join the email list and the art center will notify you of the newest classes as soon as they are ready for sign-ups.
Want to enjoy some free breakfast and learn more from local artists? Sit in on Creative Mornings, a monthly art lecture series that serves breakfast with your lesson. There are always new classes available. Some of the classes you can enjoy include jewelry, all forms of blown glass, drawing, painting with oils and wax, photography, pastels, sewing, fashion design, and basic art principles for youth to help them discover where they would like to express themselves through art.
Location and Hours
The art center is located at 1301 Nicholas Street in Omaha Nebraska and is open on weekdays from 10 am to 6 pm and on weekends from 11 am to 5 pm.
The studio is currently full as far as all of its studio space. If you are an artist interested in a studio at the art center you can sign up for the waitlist. The non-profit that runs the studio is hoping to expand to more locations to be able to offer more studio space and more classes in different locations.
