Omaha's Next Urban Park will be Unique to Its NeighborhoodMany areas of Omaha have seen or are undergoing revitalization projects to bring more residents back into the urban areas of Omaha. One of the current projects is the Builders' District which is currently undergoing construction. This area is proposed to have a couple of great downtown parks and the latest park proposal will be unique to the Builders' District neighborhood.

The Square in the Builders' District

This new park is privately owned and is referred to as the Square on official city documents. It is planned to make up 1.4 acres at South East 17th and Cumming Street. Unlike parks in neighboring downtown Omaha areas, this one is meant to feel distinct to the Builders' District neighborhood that is currently under construction.

The developer for this new downtown Omaha park is Noddle Cos. If permitting goes smoothly the formation for the park will start in the spring of 2023. Many real estate investors and developers selling homes in the building district are excited and have hope that it will be a key attraction and selling point to residential homes in the Builders' District.

What will residents find in this new downtown park?

The first initial development of the park has plans for a grassy lawn that is centered around a giant movie screen with a stage for outdoor live performances. The park will also feature a bike and walk pathway.

Further in the future, there are plans for a 4000-square-foot restaurant and a possibility for a dog park. There of course will be plenty of lush green landscaping with trees and other plants. The park will also feature fencing to create a controlled environment that would allow the selling and consumption of alcohol. This park is meant to feel like a place that residents can hop over to at the end of a long day and enjoy some outdoor space with their neighbors. It is meant to feel like a neighborhood hangout for those living near the park.

The Builders' District neighborhood

The Builders District neighborhood began construction a few years ago with the construction of the corporate offices for Kiewit Corp. which opened in 2021. This corporate office is a unique eco-friendly building and is Omaha's first timber commercial structure currently.

The Builders' District is envisioned to take up to 12 city blocks in Omaha with mixed-use. There are plans for condos, apartments, hotel buildings, and other commercial and business structures. It has hopes to be one of Omaha's coolest urban neighborhoods. The entire Builder's District neighborhood development is expected to take another couple of years until it sees completion.
