Plans to Rebuild Skyline Woods in the Elkhorn Area are In the Works

Plans and requests for permitting have been submitted to build a private championship golf course where the Skyline Woods Country Club has stood dormant for years in the Elkhorn neighborhood. 

The course has a new owner as of two years ago, Dennis Circo. Dennis is a longtime resident of the housing community located along the former Skyline Woods golf course. His father once owned the course in the late 1960s. At the time the land was very rural and undeveloped. It was the place of cornfields and cattle. Circo's father is responsible for the development of Skyline Woods and its surrounding residential neighborhood. The course was sold by the Circo family in 1990. Since that time the golf course has changed ownership many times. It eventually ended in bankruptcy. The space was maintained as a green space prior to Dennis purchasing it. 

In 2008 the Nebraska Supreme Court ruled that the land needed to be retained as a green space after a court battle between homeowners around the course and the current land owner at the time. And because of this, the area has remained untouched, but also unused for its original purpose, a golf course. 

Dennis Circo has submitted plans that include restoring the course. The plans would include rebuilding the entire course, the clubhouse, and the swimming pool. The entire grounds and all structures would need work. The plans layout details of construction in different phases. Planned phases describe the construction of a new course, a new 27,000-square-foot clubhouse, a pro shop, a new swimming pool, and some pickleball courts. Circo has shared that he wasn't exactly sure what his plans for the land were when he purchased it, but he felt it had become an eyesore without maintenance, and a change needed to be made. 

The plans submitted for redevelopment have a focus on working with the layout that is already there. This means little to no grading will be required. The hope is to use what is already existing, clean it up, and bring it back to a playable and usable recreation space. 

Surveys of Western Douglas County show that much of the recent development has been of residential properties and that the area is growing. But the recent development shows that there have not been plans for country club development. There has been little to no development of family-friendly recreational spaces for a very long time in the area. The course is planned to be within the current layout and lands but improved for USGA standards and offer other great activities for families to enjoy. The country club will be a member-only establishment with first opportunities to join reserved for homeowners in Skyline Woods and then opened up to others later on. 

Circo who lives in Skyline Woods at the center point of the course says that the development of the course and club will increase the values of homes around the course.
